Update

End of year note from the Downtown West Team

Thank you for working with us this past year to shape Downtown West. We continue to learn from your feedback, and are committed to making Downtown West a vibrant, inclusive part of San José.

Highlights from this year

As we look back at 2020, we want to take a moment to recap the work that’s been done—made possible with valuable feedback from neighbors and stakeholders like you.

  • We resubmitted our application and released design standards and guidelines, watch this video to learn more.
  • We've updated the FAQ on our website to reflect the most common questions we've received in recent months. Let us know if we've missed any of your questions.
  • We received from community members more than 1,800 points of data informing programming and activities shared in our recent survey.
  • Check out some of the press on Downtown West this year: The Mercury NewsSan Jose SpotlightCNBC.

We’re also working on a few areas of focus we’ve heard from the community:

  • Considering an inclusive naming process for Downtown West's plaza's, parks and streets.
  • Working on construction coordination and planning in the project area and vicinity.
  • Making sure all of Downtown West's parks and plazas are safe, inviting, inclusive, and well kept.
  • Developing an open space governance structure that will benefit everyone.
  • Continuing to develop community benefits with consideration of affordable housing, displacement, job and learning opportunities that we're excited to share in 2021.

Looking forward

  • In the new year, we'll host a conversation series featuring community leaders, experts, and arts and culture innovators on thoughts surrounding public life. Have a recommendation on who we should feature? Email us at downtownwest@google.com
  • We'll come back in the spring with more on the project's community benefits.
