In Conversation with Valley Verde: Healthy equitable food

We met up (virtually) with three members of the Valley Verde team: Marlene Gallegos, Home Garden Program Coordinator; Rita Espinoza, Home Garden Program Coordinator; and Rachelle Harding, Home Garden Program Manager.

Valley Verde is a nonprofit urban farm and nursery that Downtown West has been proud to host as an interim use tenant (see photos of their grand opening event here). Valley Verde works with a culturally informed community-based food system to address food inequities. They  provide low-resource Silicon Valley families with organic home gardening training as well as micro-entrepreneurship training, helping families to increase self-sufficiency, health and resilience. In this conversation, we talk about the food inequities that Valley Verde seeks to address, and how they choose their seedlings and conduct their outreach.
